In the latter half of 2021, it was announced that rare traces of a Roman crucifixion had been found in England. This inference was made based on the discovery of a skeleton with a nail driven through its foot, a common feature of the brutal punishment meted out in the distant past for crimes including piracy and political and religious agitation.
Even though crucifixion was a very widespread procedure in ancient Rome, there isn’t a lot of tangible proof of it.
This skeleton is the fourth piece of crucifixion proof that has ever been discovered, and it was discovered at a Roman village in Cambridgeshire. It has the best preservation of the four as well.
