Infamous in American history, Prohibition was a period when the government attempted to outlaw alcohol use. Due to lawbreakers finding ways to produce and sell alcohol in defiance of the prohibition laws, Prohibition mostly failed and gave rise to the Mafia and other criminal organizations.
There are unused tunnels from the 1920s in Los Angeles (as well as many other cities, we’d venture). During Prohibition, these tunnels led to speakeasies where visitors could enjoy live music and alcoholic beverages.
One tour of the abandoned speakeasy tunnels was conducted by following directions that had been scrawled on a bar napkin. Directions to these secretive events were kept confidential.
