Nobody anticipated finding Ice Age bones while accepting the plan to enlarge Reser Stadium at the University of Oregon, but that is exactly what happened.
When digging during construction, workers were surprised to find a tooth, a 1.22-meter femur bone, and several other bone fragments. It turned out that these bones came from a mammoth that lived thousands of years ago during the Ice Age.
The remains were found in a 3 m deep pit, which scientists believe was formerly a watering hole or pond where ailing animals rested before dying.
