Location: Fineilspitze, Otztal Alps, Austria-Italy Border
Year Discovered: 1991
Est. Value: N/A
In September of 1991, two German vacationers were hiking with the Otztal Alps when they saw a body.
At the time, they thought it was the remains of a mountaineer, but, after notifying authorities, it was found that the body was actually a natural mummy of a man that had lived in between 3350 and 3105 B.C
He was nicknamed Otzi the Iceman as a result of where he was found. Otzi is Europe’s earliest all-natural human mummy (up until now), and also he is currently displayed in an Italian museum.
Interestingly sufficient, it appears that Otzi did not pass away from all-natural causes, as an arrowhead was located embedded in him when his body was exhumed.
