Prichard Colón Melendez, was born on September 19, 1992 in Maitland, Florida. He is an American boxer by his profession.
He is the honorary of the WBC ( World Boxing Championship). Similarly, a gold medal winner at the Pan-American Youth Championship in the 64-kg category.
Colon was born to muddle class family. However, at the age of 10, Colon and his family shifted to Puerto Rico, so Prichard could represent the island in competitions.
Colón started his career at the Albergue Olímpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico. In his career later, he won 5 national championships in both of 141 and 152 pounds divisions.
Moreover, in 2012 Colon decided to finally become a professional boxer. He made his debut on February 23, 2013. His first fight was against Xavier La Salle who was then knocked out in the first round. Importantly, he has fought about 5 times in 2013 and 7 times in 2014.
Colon’s notable fight came out on September 9, 2015 with Vivian Harris at Toronto. Colon won the fight by knocking out Harris in the fourth round.
The Brain Injury :
Colon’s last fight was with Terrel Williams, however the last one due the severe injury on his hind brain. Colon was preceding till first 5 rounds. Willian was continuously hitting Colon on his hind brain and he complaint several times for the same. The referee around didn’t bothered much asked him to defend himself on his own. Prichard spoke several times to the ring-side doctor for he continuously felt dizziness. He was knocked for the first time in his whole professional career that too because of the illegal blows.
He was disqualified for due to the corner of the ring the glove got removed indicating that he have gave up! Exactly after the fight got over he starting puking and was immediately moved to the hospital. An internal brain bleeding was traced. He went in coma for consecutive 221 days. His career was halted and his life changed. His parents ever filed a suit against Williams and demanded $50 million dollars for seeking damages.

Current State :
Contrary to expectation, Colon has made steady progress in his rehabilitation. However, it’s unclear how much Colon can recover, but he has made stunning progress. On 9th June 2021, Nieves, his mum, posted Facebook videos showing Prichard’s progress.
“Prichard Colon Melendez did super today in his PT therapy,” she wrote. “Thank you for your prayers. God bless you lots of blessings.”
Above all, she has also stated about the several surgeries undertaken for his steady recoverability.
