Citrus is a Japanese yuri manga series written and illustrated by Saburouta. It was serialized in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime from November 2012 to August 2018 and is licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. A 12-episode anime television series adaptation by Passione aired from January to March 2018. A sequel manga titled Citrus Plus began serialization in December 2018.
Who are Mei and Yuzu?
Yuzu Aihara
Yuzu is a very pretty girl with dyed chestnut blonde hair. She has bangs swept to the left side and emerald green eyes. She has two piercings in each ear and she is very fashionable. Yuzu keeps up with the latest trends. Her natural hair colour is brown, and during the 17th and 18th chapters of the manga, she temporarily wore a jet black wig. She transfers to a all girls school after her mother gets remarried.
Her Character is voiced by Ayana Taketatsu.
Mei Aihara
The character Mei is a very beautiful light-skinned young girl. She has straight silky mid-back length black hair and purple eyes. While she is in school, she dresses formally in uniform with an additional arm-band on her left arm which identifies her as a part of the student council. When attending events outside of school, she wears ordinary plain clothes which attract little attention to her. She starts wearing a ring that Yuzu gave her but only outside of school.
Her character is voiced by Minami Tsuda.
The relationship between Yuzu and Mei.
Yuzu is Mei’s stepsister and she is only a year older that Mei. Citrus follows the evolution of the relationship between Yuzu and Mei. Their animosity slowly lessens as the two begin to learn more about each other. The show also follows the confusion growing as Yuzu discovers that she is starting to develop romantic feelings for her new stepsister. As of the end of the original manga run, the two characters are now married.
