Social media : Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Are Down

Following a widespread worldwide outage that impacted multiple Meta-owned apps on Wednesday, Instagram and WhatsApp are again back online.

Facebook has not yet stated if all of its problems have been fixed.

“We appreciate your patience with us! Just making a few final checks, we’re 99 percent there. The programs’ owner, Meta, posted an apology on X to anybody impacted by the outage.

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, more than 18,000 users had trouble using WhatsApp on Wednesday night, and more than 22,000 users reported problems with Facebook.

There have been reports of issues with the apps throughout the US, South America, Asia, Australia, parts of Europe, and the UK.

“And we’re back, happy chatting!” WhatsApp stated on X.

“Andddd we’re back – sorry for the wait, and thanks for bearing with us,” stated Instagram.

According to Downdetector, the disruptions began on Wednesday at approximately 18:00 GMT. The actual number of users impacted may differ significantly from the figures based on outage complaints.

Meta quickly acknowledged that it was aware of a “technical issue” that was “impacting some users’ ability to access our apps” and promised to address the problem as soon as possible after customers reported problems.

Numerous problems were observed, including as some users’ feeds not refreshing or their inability to use the apps at all.

“We are aware that there are some problems using WhatsApp. Most people’s lives are beginning to return to normal, and we’re actively working on a solution. At about the same time, WhatsApp stated, “We anticipate that things will soon return to normal.”

Some of the most well-known platforms worldwide are those offered by Meta. Every month, more than three billion people use Facebook.

In 2021, when founder Mark Zuckerberg expressed regret for the inconvenience, Meta had its largest outage.

During that time, the services of Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger were unavailable for about six hours.

The service appears to have been restored, though. Approximately 10,000 Americans had complained about Facebook problems at the time this piece was written, and just as many had complained about Instagram and WhatsApp. The UK and India also saw a sharp decline in reports.

About 68% of Indian users experienced problems with the app, 21% reported login issues, and 11% reported difficulties accessing the Instagram website, according to the outage tracking website Downdetector.
Approximately 89% of WhatsApp users encountered difficulties when sending messages, 9% encountered issues with the program, and 2% encountered difficulties when making voice conversations.
